LESSON SIXTY-ONE

Lesson 61:

 

I am the light of the world…

That is my only function…

 That is why I am here…

It is because we are the light of the world, and that light must be recognized within, that it is so crucial to make choosing the Holy Spirit, which brings the awareness of light, the light within, the light that is our one Self, the most important thing, every day; every moment, this very instant!

Actually, it is simpler than the reaching for the concept of being light, some place deep within our mind, after we have spent a lifetime dis-identifying with it.

The light is what we are.

The Course teaches that we recognize our Self by seeing the light within our brothers. So if I make seeing the light in you, by placing my faith in the truth in you, my only goal, it lights my mind to the truth beyond, in which appearances and concepts come and go.
Light and love are one, and can be seen everywhere in everyone… It is Who I am …and how I learn who I am in truth. If I don’t keep this at the forefront of my mind, at all times, how can I possibly know what I am seeing and recognize the Self we share? Ultimately, we come to realize that we look only upon the light of Christ.

That is why it is my only function. Without light I cannot see… light is within me where my Father placed it. I come to know that it comes from me when I shine forgiveness, letting go the judgment of thinking I know… no matter the apparent place and time…
This is how I learn that darkness cannot hide, nor with it, all the dark judgments and fears I held about you, the world, and myself.
I am the light of the world… I can remember the first time I did this lesson. I felt so unworthy and unfit for what I saw to be an ominous responsibility~ “God has built his plan for the salvation of his Son, on me…?”  I thought, “Oh, my god. That was so far from where I see myself. What kind of miracle would it take for me to even get near to what this is saying?”
Today I see that was the arrogance piece that this lesson is talking about.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I didn’t love the idea of ‘being that guy – that save mankind guy’. As a matter of fact, I was always dummying-up a fantasy of saving the world and being the hero that the god (of my making) would be proud of … It’s just that from the self-loathing place I viewed myself, I felt impotent.

I felt myself a failure as a child of God, weak and small and desperately needing a miracle… I see that, too, for what it is, I was merely trying to save my face and my ass at the same time…~ It turns out, I was just wrong. Neither concept was real.

“Spirit is in a state of grace forever… and my reality is only Spirit. Therefore, I am in a state of Grace forever…”

The miracle is received for price of asking, that right here, right now…always, already, without distinction of any kind: “I am the light of the world…” I am it.
…Utterly humbling …

Humility: being returned to the ground of our being ...

I choose again for all the world, as do you; offering the Holy Spirit the little willingness needed for all of it to be different than the made up, petty, arrogant story, the ego dictates… We allow for the entire story we called our life, to be given over for reinterpretation by Him.
The miracle blesses with the vision of a forgiven world, now. The forgiven world reveals the light that shines away the nothingness of self concepts, reflecting the light of love which is our One Self... I invite us read Chapter 18 of the text, in the section called “Light in the Dream” , as a compliment to today’s study, which talks about the process of this return to light.

 I am the light of the world~ that is my only function. That is why I am here. We light the world together, you and I, for we cannot be apart. WE ARE CHRIST! ~All glory to God and His plan for the salvation for His Son…
